In May AITP President Mike Welch and Professional Awards Co-Chair Mike Hall presented the 2013 Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) to the Cornhusker Chapter. Read below for the detailed synopsis and presentation.

By Michael Welch, Association President, on May 15, 2014

Good evening, and thank you for your invitation and hospitality.

It's a pleasure and privilege to present the 2013 Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) to the Cornhusker Chapter. Mike Hall, the Professional Awards Chair and I planned to attend your December event, but the weather was real we chose May, and it's still snowing!

As EVP last year, I chaired the committee for AOCA selection. There were 20 chapters who received the COPA award, and 8 chapters who qualified as candidates for AOCA.  In competition, the chapters ranged from large to small, from all over the US; San Diego, Northeastern Wisconsin, Long Island, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Austin, Polk and Cornhusker.

The decision by the committee was unanimous for Cornhusker to receive the award. This award represents dedication to the AITP mission and goals, providing networking, information, education, leadership and community service for Information Technology.

FYI, the 2014 NCC was a great success in Atlanta, where the attendance was over 700. Next year, it will be in Omaha. You may wish to co-host with that chapter...It's worthwhile venture, plus building COPA points. The best-of-the-best college students attend and compete for prizes, money and scholarships, along with job opportunities.

We have a new management firm, replacing the previous one.  Association Headquarters (AH) took over operations on January 1, 2014. Our Executive Director is Melissa Baldwin, a very capable and certified association management professional. Supporting her is Lexie Miller, Membership and Website Coordinator. Our Membership Director is Heather Blush. They will help you with any membership questions/problems.

We have also developed a new strategic plan to assist the chapters and professional and student membership. It was facilitated with the assistance of Amy Williams, Chief Relationship Officer from AH, and will be distributed very soon. You can reach staff at HQ. Plus my email address and phone numbers are open to the public.

I started the 2014 year with three simple goals.

A. Increase professional membership
B. Improve and rebuild student development services
C. Promote open communications within the organization.
