AITP Chicago and ISSA-Chicago wish to congratulate Jason Witty, CISO of US Bancorp, (pictured center above), winner of the inaugural 2013 CISO of the Year Award. All nominations, judging, and elections were done by peers in the information security community, and the award was presented at the Award Program breakfast on October 17th.

The Chicago chapters of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) are proud to announce the winner of the 2013 Chicago Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Year Award. This year's inaugural winner is Jason Witty, Senior Vice-President and CISO at U.S. Bancorp. Witty was selected after careful consideration of over ten other nominees for the 2013 award.

With twenty-one years of information technology experience, twenty of these focused on information risk management, Witty scored highly in the areas of business-centric information security enablement, creating business value through information security solution development and engineering, leadership, talent development and intelligence-driven information security program management. He also scored highly in community outreach and leadership given the significant roles he has played with ChicagoFIRST, Cloud Security Alliance, Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS/ISAC), Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), and the RSA Conference.

Taking place over a 90-day period and culminating with an Award Breakfast at the Metropolitan Club of Chicago in October, the program consists of a nomination phase, a qualifying and detailed application process, formal and informal interviews with nominees, and a peer panel of judges who score each candidate. The award is designed to recognize the achievements of the individuals as leaders as well as the significant role that information security now plays in the global, regional, and local business. The program received broad industry support and sponsorship from IBM, Trusteer, Sourcefire, PalaceGate Corp., McAfee, Infoblox, Risk I/O, and Aruba Networks.

The runner-up for this award is Arlan McMillan, the first CISO for the City of Chicago. Scoring a close second, in addition to strong corporate and community leadership, Arlan scored highly for securely enabling innovative cloud-based services that provide greater agility at lower cost of ownership for the City.

Wayne Johnson, Co-Chair of ISSA-Chicago and Tina Hauri, Co-Chair AITP-Chicago were very impressed by this year's slate of candidates. "The level of leadership evidenced by all of the nominees this year was phenomenal. Chicago is very lucky to have such diverse and highly regarded CISO leaders.” said Hauri.
