Two New Inductees to the ICCP Fellows Award

- Lynn McKell and Fred Harris (posthumously) were both bestowed the prestigious ICCP Fellows Award, at the ICCP’s 40th Anniversary celebration in San Diego earlier this year. The award, given out by the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals’ Board of Directors is designed to recognize and honor individuals who have shown major support, over a long period of time, to advance the goals and purposes of the computer industry and the ICCP.

Lynn McKell – a Professor Emeritus from Brigham Young University holds patents for the touch tone telephone and contributed significantly to many ICCP examinations, the Education Foundation’s Centre for Computing Education Research and developing a nationally-normed assessment for colleges and universities. He has volunteered all his life to good causes and is currently performing missionary service in Brooklyn, NY. (Editor’s Note: See this previous Information Executive article:

Fred Harris – a former President of the ICCP - was one of the primary architects behind the ICCP program. . He was the ACM assigned Co-Chair, serving with John Swearingen (DPMA), for the Computer Foundation Organizing Committee, 1973. He became a Charter Member ICCP Director from the ACM serving from 1973 to 1981. The Computer Foundation Organizing Committee headed the initiative for the promotion and founding of, the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP), with the name later changing to become the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP). Fred served as the ICCP Vice-President 1973-75, and was the ICCP President in 1976.

Offering the only non-vendor specific, broadly applicable and internationally recognized certification program in the profession, the ICCP is a program that continues to grow after forty years in the market place. It is seen as the standard bearer for all professionals in the information, communications and technology industry. Since its founding in 1973, the ICCP, a non-profit 501(c) (6) organization, has dedicated itself to the establishment of high professional standards and the furthering of the goals of its parent societies. The ICCP continues today as the society of professional associations providing the standard in certification for business intelligence, data management and computing.
